(PEORIA) — Recognizing the Peoria Police Department, Peoria High head coach Tim Thornton emphasized to his players the importance of building a strong relationship with local law enforcement.

On Friday, the Peoria Lions honored the PPD as the game’s guests of honor wearing special jerseys while having squad cars sound off their sirens after every Lions touchdown.

Prior to gameday, the team also hosted a dinner at the school where the players and officers had the opportunity to sit and chat whether it was small talk or how the community can work together during times where there’s tension between the public and local police.

Chief Loren Marion believes that moments like this help “bridge the gap” and hopes to bring in the Peoria High team to the station so they can continue this discussion once the season concludes.
