Much-needed money will replace outdated masks for local firefighters

Volunteer firefighters in Bloomington are getting federal money to get some much-needed new equipment.

It’s FEMA’s “Assistance to Firefighters” grant.

$118,000 will be going to the Bloomington Township Fire Protection District to purchase new self-contained breathing apparatuses.

Those can cost up to $5,000 each.

The Fire Chief says their current masks are 23 years old, and the new equipment will help keep their volunteer firefighters safe.
