Peoria airport continues to break records, director says

PEORIA (WEEK) — The General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport is on pace to set a record for its busiest year.

Gene Olson, director of airport for the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria, said 2018 was the busiest for the PIA with 672,594 passengers, but “so far this year, the total is running a little better than three and a quarter percent above that number.”

July 2019 has been the busiest month for the airport, Olson said, with 68,447 passengers, beating out June 2019’s count, which was 65,919.

“We are thrilled to be seeing record setting passenger counts this year. Every month in 2019 has posted monthly records with the exception of January. January’s count was affected by the really bad winter weather that caused more than usual cancellations,” said Olson.
