Man arrested for Peoria shooting last week

PEORIA (WEEK) – Peoria Police said they have made an arrest for a shooting which happened Aug. 6th.

Peoria Police said they arrested 27-year-old Breon L. Jones Wednesday around 11:00 a.m.

According to Peoria Police, the shooting happened around 12:16 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6th in the 2900 block of N. Peoria Ave. That is where police found a 38-year-old man shot with life-threatening injuries.

Police said their investigation led them to Jones, so they issued a parole violation warrant for his arrest.

Wednesday, officers said they spotted Jones’ vehicle driving in the 2700 block of West Lake. When Jones and a another man got out of the car to walk into a business, police said they converged on the men.

Jones ran away, while the other man, 28-year-old Prentice A. Augusta, reportedly threatened officers and interfered with Jones’ arrest.

Police also said they searched the vehicle, finding a pistol in the glove box.

For that, police said Jones faces charges for Aggravated Unlawful use of Weapons and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. As for the shooting, Jones faces charges for Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Attempted Murder.

Augustia was arrested for interfering with the arrest and for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons.
