UPDATE (2:30 P.M.) — The Peoria Police Department has upgraded the investigation in the death of Jaware Cole to a homicide.
In a press release Wednesday (July 17), the PPD said they made the decision after the Cole died Tuesday (July 16) night.
No arrests have been made, the release stated.

PEORIA (WEEK) — Jaware Cole has died after being shot in the face on July 6. He has become Peoria’s 14th homicide victim.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said in a release Wednesday (July 17) Cole, 24, of Peoria, died at 9:01 p.m. Tuesday (July 16).
On July 6, Cole was brought to UnityPoint Methodist by a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the face and was later transferred to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. He remained in critical condition the last week and a half before he died.
On July 6, the Peoria Police Department and emergency crews responded to the area of Richard Pyror and R.B. Garrett for a shooting with two victims. The other victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
There has been no other information given about suspect information and the case remains under investigation.
