Wednesday morning fire results in one dog dead, but no other injuries reported

PEORIA (WEEK) — A dog has died in a house fire Wednesday morning on Peoria’s north end, but no one was injured, an assistant fire chief said.

Chillicothe firefighters are still on scene of the incident at the 1300 block of Beach Street just off Ill. Route 29 — on the border of Mossville and Peoria, resulting in multiple departments responding to the call.

Officials said Chillicothe, Peoria, West Peoria, Princeville, Sparta and Lacon departments responded to the scene, allowing for firefighters to be rotated in and out more quickly with excessive temperatures on Wednesday. Heat indexes are expected to rise to about 105 degrees.

Officials at the scene said the fire originated in the kitchen.

The two-story single family home sustained serious damage on the inside and out, but, as of now, is not considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
