Three emergency personnel injured in inflatable boat explosion near Vermilion River

The Oglesby Police Department said they are investigating an explosion near the Vermilion River Wednesday night.

They said it happened around 7:00 p.m.  Though that’s all the police department would provide Wednesday evening, the Oglesby Fire Department shared further details on Facebook.

In a post, they said Oglesby Fire and EMS Water Rescue Team went to the canoe landing on the river near Ed Hand Highway for training around 6:00 p.m. About an hour later, they said there was a rupture in their inflatable boat, causing a violent explosion. Two firefighters and one EMT were injured and taken to the Illinois Valley Community Hospital.
