While Peoria’s longest running road race is still on for this weekend, there are some weather related changes.
Because so much of the area near the Riverplex and Gateway building were dealing with floodwaters for weeks now, the Steamboat Classic race had to re-route.
The course now includes three hills for some runners, plus new start and finish lines.
You’ll also end up at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
After 46 years, this is the first time they’ve had to adjust so much to mother nature.
“Luckily, everything is starting to dry out. But, what was once green space is now this dark, gray brown space. So, we’re not going to use that on Saturday,” said Philip Lockwood, Managing Director for the Steamboat Classic road race.
The 46th annual steamboat classic is set for 7:00 a.m. Saturday June 15.
You can still register online https://www.steamboatclassic.org/
or in person on Friday at RC Outfitters.
