Tree falls on deputy’s vehicle near New Salem State Park

MENARD COUNTY, Ill. (WEEK) — A central Illinois deputy is safe after a large tree fell on his squad car during last night’s storms.

The Menard County Sheriff’s deputy was travelling on Illinois Route 97, near New Salem State Park, when a tree fell on his vehicle. The vehicle was severely damaged, but the deputy was able to escape unharmed.

The deputy remained on the scene to alert other motorists about the tree blocking the road until the Illinois Department of Transportation and area firefighters responded.
