Gov. J.B. Pritzker, his wife and his brother-in-law are the subjects of a federal probe into his property tax appeals on a Chicago mansion after having the toilets removed, according to a new report.
WBEZ-FM in Chicago reports federal prosecutors are looking into Pritzker and his family over property tax appeals filed on a mansion on Chicago’s Gold Coast. M.K. Pritzker reportedly ordered workers to remove toilets from the mansion next door to their Chicago home so it could be declared “uninhabitable.”
The designation helped the Pritzkers get a big property tax break, according to reports.
The property tax appeal became a big theme of former Gov. Bruce Rauner’s re-election campaign, which Pritzker ultimately won by double digits.
A lawyer for the Pritzkers told WBEZ that law enforcement hasn’t contacted them, and they are confident the rules were followed.
