UPDATE: Peoria murder suspect arrested after overnight stabbing

PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) — Peoria Police are actively searching for a man they say committed an overnight murder.

It happened at Taft Homes, located at 530 Northeast Adams Street in Peoria, around 11:15 PM, when authorities got a call of someone requesting an ambulance.

When they got to the scene, Police found a 58-year-old Shirley M. King with a stab wound.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is set for this afternoon.

Police spokeswoman Amy Dotson says information gathered at the scene led them to identifying 49-year-old Lester Broom as a suspect.

Broom was booked into the Peoria County Jail on Monday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
