Peoria Park District golf courses begin opening this weekend

Fore! The Peoria Park District’s three golf courses will all be open by Tuesday morning, though none will allow carts yet.

Kellogg’s 18 and 9-hole courses will both open Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Newman follows Monday at 10 a.m., and Madison will open Tuesday at 10 a.m.

“The golf courses are ready,” the park district’s golf director, Greg Walker, said. “We did have a historically bad winter. Every course is dealing with it. The golf course superintendents would not be opening up the course if they did not think they could handle it.”

New for this year are online tournament entries, which Walker says will begin April 1.

He says there’s no guess about when carts will be allowed, and to keep an eye on their Facebook and website for more details. He says mother nature will tell them when they can proceed. For now, he hopes players will enjoy the courses, and the walking.

“[Kellogg] is in great shape for this time of the year,” he said. “Not going to be in perfect shape like it is in June, but the greens came through fantastic and the course is in great shape.”
