UPDATE: 86-year-old man killed in accident on Illinois Route 41

BUSHNELL, Ill. (WEEK) — An 86-year-old man is dead after a vehicle lost control on an icy road in McDonough County on Tuesday.

The Illinois State Police said a red Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Dallas Campbell, 74, of Bushnell was headed south on Illinois Route 41 south of Bushnell when he lost control, crossing the centerline and hitting a Ford van head-on.

Both Campbell and his passenger, 86-year-old Ray Etter of Bushnell, were ejected from the truck. Campbel and the three occupants of the van were taken to McDonough District Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the van, 65-year-old Steven Palmer of Bardolph, was life-flighted to OSF Saint Francis in Peoria.

Campbell was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Illinois Route 41 was closed south of Bushnell for several hours Tuesday after the crash.
