Anonymous donor pays off lunch balances for Illini Bluffs students

GLASFORD, Ill. (WEEK) — An act of holiday generosity in East Peoria inspired another act of quiet kindness in Central Illinois.

In December, an Air Force veteran paid off all outstanding lunch balances for students at East Peoria Central Junior High School, totaling about $510.

A person in the Glasford community who saw the story on the news was inspired to do the same for students in the Illini Bluffs School District, Superintendent Roger Alvey said. Like the veteran who donated to East Peoria, this donor also wished to remain anonymous.

Alvey said the negative balances were paid off when students returned from break.

“Although I am not at liberty to disclose the name of our local donor, I wanted to publicly recognize their efforts on behalf of our children, and also thank them for their holiday generosity. Perhaps this will inspire others to pay it forward, as well,” Alvey said in an e-mail to parents.
