HAVANA, Ill. (WEEK) — If you’re ever in the mood for some good old-fashioned American cuisine, try heading southwest of Peoria.
When I walked into Babes on Plum restaurant in Havana, I expected to see customers having a great time, eating some great food.
But what I didn’t expect to see was the entire city staff inside including the mayor of Havana chowing down on food that came out fast, hot and ready to eat.
” We do lots of different things, a bit of everything. Salads, wraps, burgers, wings, steaks, chops, chicken, a little bit of everything,” said co-owner Todd Schaeffer.
Schaeffer and his wife Kelly own this popular hot spot in Havana. Before they took over the place in February of 2007, the restaurant was previously owned by his mother. But the service, according to some, has always been top notch here.
“They take care of everyone and they really advocate for people coming in. Having specials and working things out for their customers. They do a wonderful job of running the restaurant,” said customer Cole McDaniel.
From the historic pictures on the wall to this unique upside-down Christmas tree, you have to admit Babes on Plum has a lot more than food to offer its customers.
But the food is what keeps them coming back.
“I love their salad with the bleu cheese and I rarely have to order. They already know what I want when I come in. But I love their chili also,” said customer Mike Snedeker.
Check out my order…a prime rib sandwich with homemade chips and an order of hot wings. It was too much to eat in one sitting so you know I had to get a to-go box..
The cost… $21.53.
