East Peoria man charged in string of viral road rage incidents

An East Peoria man is behind bars after a string of road rage incidents with multiple drivers across the area.

East Peoria Police Chief Dick Ganschow said 54-year-old James Mayernich was involved in several road rage encounters over the last several months across central illinois.

The chief said Mayernich’s antics have been the subject of several social media posts, but most importantly, the only reason Mayernich is behind bars is because of a police report a driver filed.

“Facebook posts do not constitute police reports,” said Ganschow. “We need people to report those incidents directly to police so we can investigate those and try to take appropriate action.”

After police received the report, the investigation led to the arrest of Mayernich, who is currently in the Tazewell County Jail on $100,000 bond.
