Bloomington alderman’s shirt upsets some people at city meeting

BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) — Bloomington Alderman Jeff Crabill’s shirt was the topic of some impromptu public comment at Monday’s city meeting.

His shirt, which read, “keep the immigrants, deport the racists” did not sit well with some members of the crowd.

“To me the shirt is very inflammatory, and the shirt itself is much more racist than what it says on it,” one woman said in the public comment period. “I don’t think he should be allowed to sit at a council chamber desk wearing it.”

“I don’t know if this council has a code regarding decorum or not. If you don’t I would suggest that you adopt one,” a man said during public comment. “I don’t know what Mr. Crabill’s intent was with his shirt. If it was to cause some controversy, congratulations.”

Crabill declined to comment on the shirt after the meeting.
