118 Caterpillar contract workers facing May layoffs

PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) — 118 employees performing janitorial services in three Central Illinois Caterpillar facilities are facing layoffs this May.

GCA Services, Inc. lost its contract to perform janitorial services for Caterpillar, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Sixty-eight workers in Mossville, 29 workers in East Peoria, and 21 workers at the Caterpillar Proving Grounds in Washington are set to lose their jobs by May 12.

Employees were notified on March 6.

A Caterpillar spokesperson said the decision is not a reflection on the suppliers, but part of their process of “continuously evaluating” service decision, including in the Peoria area.

We’ve reached out to GCA’s parent company for comment on the loss of the contract and what help may be provided for the affected employees.
