PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) — The head of UnityPoint hospitals in Central Illinois is calling it a wrap after a 43-year career.
Debbie Simon, CEO of UnityPoint Health in Central Illinois, will retire June 30. Simon earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Illinois in 1973 and began her career as a nurse at Methodist Hospital in 1976. She rose through the ranks, eventually making it to the top of the ladder.
Debbie will long be remembered for the legacy of health care progress she leaves in Peoria and its surrounding communities,” said Kevin Vermeer, president and chief executive officer of UnityPoint Health. “She was instrumental in leading the regional affiliation with UnityPoint Health and has since fostered continuous growth and development to ensure quality care for the people and families of Central Illinois. We are grateful for her partnership and her many contributions.”
Dr. Keith Knepp, president of UnityPoint hospitals and clinics in Peoria, will succeed Simon.
