Warming centers opening as brutal cold moves in

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WEEK) — As wind chills threaten to dip to 40 to 50 degrees below zero, warming centers are opening across the state for those needing to take shelter.

The Peoria Police Department lobby, 600 SW Adams, is open as a warming center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 2903 W. Nebraska in Peoria, will open at 8 a.m. Tuesday and remain open through the rest of the week as a warming center.
