The president of Peoria’s Brewers Distributing was killed Tuesday night in a car accident near Princeville.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Paul Jacob, 49, died when he was in an single-vehicle accident on Princeville-Jubilee Road, south of the intersection with Parks School Road, around 5:45 p.m.

Jacob was not breathing and on the ground when emergency responders got to the scene. Harwood said he was travelling southbound on Princeville-Jubilee Road when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, for unknown reasons.

Harwood later said Jacob was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Harwood said an “extensive external investigation” showed Jacob was travelling at a high rate of speed when he lost control in gravel on the road’s shoulder, overcorrected, crossed the road and struck the utility pole.

There will be no autopsy. Toxicology results are pending. The accident is still under investigation.
