Normal K9 retires after leukemia diagnosis

NORMAL, Ill. (WEEK) — A K9 officer in Normal is retiring after almost seven years on the job after he was diagnosed with cancer.

K9 Barrett was recently diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He’ll live out the rest of his life with his partner, Officer Jon Cleveland.

Barrett helped seize more than 37,000 grams of illegal drugs and $27,000 throughout his career. He helped out in 459 arrests, and participated in 491 presentations to the citizens of Normal.
