Bloomington Creative Center envisioned, fundraising underway

Leaders with the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts say it’s time to resurrect plans to complete a downtown Bloomington Creative Center.

James Mack, manager of the performing arts center, says the plans were put on hold a decade ago. The warehouse on E. Chestnut needs a lot of work. Mack says the building needs a new roof and HVAC system.

He says they still have $1.2 million from previous fundraising, and now hope to collect $4 million more.

“The city of Bloomington is hoping the north end of downtown will become a creative hub, an artistic hub, for the city,” Mack said. “We’re well on our way to satisfying that desire, and, in my opinion, need for the city.”

The new center will be a hub for various artists and a place to learn skills like animation.

There will be a Kickstarter campaign in early October. You can find more information about the center here.
