Unstable canopy forces Downs gas station to close

DOWNS, Ill. (WEEK) — Recent high winds are likely to blame for structural damage to the canopy at the Mobil gas station in Downs.

Mayor Mike James said structural engineers determined the canopy at the McLean County gas station is unstable. The canopy will have to be fixed before the gas station can reopen, James said on Facebook.

This video shared by Jason Lacy on Facebook Thursday night highlights some of the structural damage at the gas station. The bases of the columns supporting the canopy show cracks, and the canopy can be seen visibly swaying from side to side in the wind.
