New otter moves into Miller Park Zoo

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WEEK) — The Miller Park Zoo has a new otter.

Spencer, a male otter, moved to the Miller Park Zoo. He was given a breeding recommendation to mate with Tallulah, the mother of this year’s otter pups.

The pups will likely leave the zoo this winter.

“It is exciting to watch the otters get to know each other.” said Jay Tetzloff of the Miller Park Zoo. “We look forward to Spencer continuing our successful breeding program and helping to maintain a healthy otter population.”

North American River Otters rarely reproduce in zoos, with only four litters across 110 institutions this year.
