PEORIA (WEEK) – Peoria Public Schools is on the hunt for 10,000 books, to keep the city’s Little Free Libraries fully stocked.
They’re up to 4,000 books so far this month, but still have a ways to go.
There is at least one library box at each Peoria K-8 public school, with about 15 total.
However, organizer Stacey Hardin, owner of the Book Rack, said the need for more is there.
“The reason that we’re doing that, is we found that if we expose the kids to books, then they’re going to develop better literacy,” she said. “So, what we’re trying to do is make sure each of the Free Little Libraries at each of the schools in District 150 are constantly filled with books.”
The Book Rack is looking for people and businesses to sponsor new Little Libraries. You can contact them to help, as well as to donate books.
They’re located at the Oak Cliff Shopping Center on Knoxville Avenue.
