Bloomington drug suspect flees to Peoria

BLOOMINGTON (WJBC) – A suspect in a Bloomington drug case was taken into custody Monday afternoon in Peoria, after fleeing from police just before noon in Downtown Bloomington.

According to our news partners WJBC, Bloomington police spokesperson John Fermon said a street crimes vice unit officer conducting a drug investigation tried to arrest the man who was driving a stolen silver jeep with Michigan license plates near Main and Jefferson in Bloomington.

Fermon said the suspect got out of the car and fled on foot, ran back to the jeep, crashed into a squad car, knocked down at least one street sign and a garbage can, then drove off.

There was bumper damage to the squad car but the officer was not hurt.

Fermon said police chose not to chase the jeep, because high speed chases are dangerous in highly populated areas.

Peoria police and Illinois State Police eventually captured the suspect.

Police are not releasing his name or the charges against him.
