A man who was shot Sunday has become the city’s 18th homicide victim of 2019.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said 23-year-old Kennard “Ken” Hardy II died at 12:44 a.m. Monday.

Hardy II was shot near the intersection of Steubenville and Kettelle before 9 p.m. Sunday, leaving him with life-threatening injuries, then transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center where he later died.

A Shotspotter alert of 10 rounds came in around 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Kettelle Street. When officers arrived, they found Hardy II in the street with gunshot wounds.

One resident said he was getting home Sunday night when shots rang out. He said due to his military training, he knew to act quick, diving to the ground to avoid being hit.

Harwood says the autopsy for Hardy is underway. Peoria police say the investigation is still ongoing.
