Unit 5 superintendent to step down after school year ends

NORMAL (WEEK) – A desire to move closer to family is the reason why Dr. Mark Daniel is stepping down from his position as the superintendent of Unit 5.

Daniel will continue to serve until June 30, 2020.

“This was a difficult decision as Bloomington-Normal is such a wonderful community, but Janet and I are excited to have an opportunity to e able to spend more time with our daughters, sons-in-law and our grandson in the very near future,” Daniel said in a press release.

The Board is working with School Exec Connect on the search for his replacement. The search firm will make a presentation at the board meeting on September 11. A contract with the company is scheduled to be voted on September 25.

An educator for 34 years, Daniel is the 12th person to hold the position of superintendent in the district, according to the release.
