PEORIA (WEEK) — A local organization wants to make it easier for minority contractors to grow in the River City.
The Minority Business Development Center is hosting a contractor development meeting next week.
The meeting is being put on to find out what those contractors need, so they can find a way to provide it.
Councilwoman Denise Moore said the city, as well as many major corporations, are always looking for minority contractors.
But it’s hard to find them.
“We want minority contractors to come and tell us what is keeping them from being successful,” she said. “Once we consolidate that info, we will bring to bear the financial institutions that they need, greater education opportunities that they might need, or maybe just someone in our building can teach them how to bid a job that makes them more successful.”
That meeting is next Thursday, August 22 at 6 p.m. at the Minority Business Development Center.
Councilwoman Moore adds that once they know what is needed, they’ll offer it in time for the 2020 contracting season.
