(Original post, 08/15/19) PEORIA (WEEK) – Peoria firefighters responded to the 800 block of West Trailcreek Drive for a man trapped in a storm drain. It happened around 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
Battalion Chief Michael Hughes said some people standing outside heard someone yelling in the distance. The bystanders thought it was coming from some nearby woods, but realized someone was stuck in the drain.
When rescue crews arrived, the man was head first in this pipe.
Crews had to use four pry bars and rope to remove the cover before the man was able to be taken out. Hughes said the man claimed he was assaulted and put inside the storm drain.
The man was taken to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.
Authorities still don’t know exactly how he got in there.
