Two firefighters receive injuries during McDonald’s fire

PEORIA (WEEK) – Two firefighters suffered injuries while responding to a fire at the McDonald’s on Western Avenue in Peoria.

When crews arrived, they found a rooftop air handling unit on fire and put it out using hand extinguishers, according to a release from the Peoria Fire Department.

One firefighter suffered an inhalation injury when the unit’s doors were opened and refrigerant was given off.

The second firefighter was injured helping the first after falling approximately 6 feet off a ladder.

Both firefighters were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The building was turned back to the owner and crews cleared without further incident.

Damage is estimated to be $15,000.
