You Gotta Eat: Kelly’s on 66

LEXINGTON (WEEK) — Calling this restaurant unique is an understatement. A scuba diver hangs over the bar, kids have their own play area and a doll collection lives inside the ladies bathroom.

When you walk through the doors of Kelly’s on 66 in Lexington, prepare yourself to be amazed.

Owner Kelly Tobin and his wife opened the restaurant in October 2017, wanting to give customers a different dining experience. It took them six months to transform the space from a gas station into what stands today.

“Everything we make is from scratch,” he said. “Most of them are my grandmothers recipes.

Tyler Klein, a regular customer of Kelly’s on 66, said they’ve poured everything into this place.

“From the garbage lady or the tin man I think they call it out front, just to the way that they have decorated it and the recipes, he’s been saving them for a longtime,” he said.

And it’s those recipes that keep the customer coming back again and again.

While pizzas are the stable dish here, there are other delicious meals on the menu you can choose from.

“I can’t get away from the chicken parmesan, I just can’t,” he said. It’s too good and it’s such a generous portion too that I am so full…it’s ridiculous.”

And get this, not all customer come into Kelly are from the local area.

A world map hanging on the wall has colorful pins that represent every place people have come from to visit the restaurant.

And they’re not just from different cities and states in the US, but all over the world.

“We have travelers almost everyday during the summer,” Tobin said. “I would say we have two different travelers from somewhere per day.”

I chose one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, called “The Porker.”.

“It’s just a thin crust pizza with our own sauce and cheese and everything,” Tobin said. But then, we put sausage, pepperoni, ham and bacon on it and it’s delicious, crispy and light.”

Of course, I added mushrooms and jalapenos to my order.

And when it came out, oh boy!

Talk about a great tasting pizza!

And the price…not so bad.

“The next time you’re in Lexington stop by “Kelly’s on 66 because You Gotta Eat.”
