BRADFORD (WEEK) — What can I say except business at the Highlands Fine Food and Whiskey House in Bradford is on fire.
Located off West Main Street in Bradford, this unique restaurant offers customers food inspired by the pubs of Scotland and Ireland, with an Illinois flair.
“It is a really neat bar and you come in and everybody does really know your name,” said Lee Hager, a regular customer. “That’s cool…that’s really cool.”
Patty McCurdy and her husband Dana have been running the restaurant for a little over three years.
The customers love them.
And the feeling is mutual.
“I love our people that come in,” she said. “You become friends with them.”
Another thing the customers love is the great food served here.
While the Highlands specializes in seafood and steaks, some of the regulars have their own favorites, like Sheila McMahill, who loves the kicked-up macaroni and cheese.
“It’s creamy,” she said. “It’s got bacon in it, it’s cooked in the wood fire oven and it’s just delicious.”
“You have got to try their fried potatoes,” Hager said. “They boil little red potatoes and then they put them on a hot grill and mash them and they’re crisp and they have big chunks and they got the skins on them and eveything.”
“They’re really good.”
Barry Reed, a regular customer, said the dry-aged New York Strip was his favorite.
“It is as good a steak compared to anywhere in the country,” he said. “It’s very good.”
The reason why the steaks are so good, according to Patty, is the type of steaks they serve their customers.
“We do dry-aged meat which is kinda uncommon in this area and we try to specially make each meal for every person,” McCurdy said.
I chose the Rueben sandwich with a side order of their mac and cheese.
It came to the table piping hot.
It was incredible…and so was the price.
“The next time you’re in Bradford make sure you stop by The Highlands Fine Food and Whiskey House…because “You Gotta Eat.”
