Kids young, old and young-at-heart got to build the future (in many cases, literally) Sunday at the Riverfront Museum.
Hundreds converged on downtown Peoria at Engineering day, with a focus on interactive fun in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.
“They have engineers here who that don’t look like teachers, they are regular people the kids can identify with, because what your parents say and your teachers say is one thing,” explained Tailetha McClinton, a local parent. “But when you meet someone who is an engineer or into medicine, it has a different feel for the kids.”
Displays included ball-throwing robots, using drills, soldering, building bridges and how to code.
Engineering Day was just the first of several planned free days for the year.
