Sen. Dick Durbin sat down with farmers from McLean County to hear their concerns about the farm bill, trade tariffs, immigration, and climate change.
Some farmers said migrant workers are necessary for their work; some said trade tariffs are having a negative impact.
Durbin also touched on the time crunch for an agreement to avoid another government shutdown.
“Let’s end government shutdowns. I’m open to it. There are Republican bills and Democratic bills. Let’s put an end to this once and for all,” said Durbin.
Durbin said lawmakers could come together to find a solution, but the President’s request for border wall funding has them at a standstill.
