Steven Dilley, 46 was arrested in Tazewell county on Friday for impersonating a peace officer and felony theft. East Peoria Police tells us Dilley was impersonating an officer by calling retail stores and asking for management or loss prevention personnel. He would call from inside the store or near the store. Once he had them on the phone he would claim to be an officer and create a fake diversion. Then he would stuff bags full of high priced merchandise before leaving the store.
Dilley was arrested on June 28, 2018 when he attempted to steal from Bass Pro Shops in East Peoria. Officers confronted Dilley at the store, then he ran from police before they finally captured him near the Illinois River. He had previously stolen from Kohl’s, Lowe’s, CVS, and Bass Pro. He was also linked to several similar crimes in Normal.
During the investigation police found over $8000 worth of merchandise in Dilley’s hotel room. They even recovered merchandise from retail stores that didn’t even know the goods were gone. His next court date is in Tazewell County on January 24th.
