Semi truck driver identified in deadly McLean Co. school bus crash

UPDATE: 12:05 PM

Peoria County Coroner, Jamie Harwood, released the identity of the semi truck driver who died in Wednesday night’s deadly collision between that truck and a school bus. The crash happened on I-74 in McLean County.

The semi truck driver who died is 34-year-old Ryan E. Hute of Delmar, Iowa. He was LifeFlighted to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in critical condition after the crash. He was pronounced dead at the hospital around 11:15 PM, just under three hours after the initial collision.

The autopsy shows Hute had several blunt force injuries. Toxicology results are pending and it’s unknown if he was wearing a seat belt or why his truck ended up driving the wrong way down I-74.
