Plane mechanical issues cause long delays at CIRA

BLOOMINGTON — Mechanical issues on two flights bound for Orlando led to delays for dozens of passengers at Central Illinois Regional Airport Thursday.

A flight set to leave at 9:17 a.m. departed the airport at 3:49 p.m. A 10 a.m. flight is set to take off at 8:35 p.m.

The flights were on Frontier and Allegiant.

An airport spokeswoman said two mechanical issues on large aircraft in once day is unusual. Passengers were asked to stay in the gate area during the delay, leading to some shortages of food and drinks. The airport bought pizza for the stranded passengers and flight crews.
