Public’s help sought to find Women’s Care Center arsonist

PEORIA (WEEK) - Authorities have released surveillance photos of an arson suspect hoping the public will help identify who started a fire in early May that heavily damaged the Women's Care Center on North University Street.

Peoria Area Crime Stoppers posted on Facebook three pictures of a single suspect.

The fire happened about 2:40 a.m. on May 3 and caused an estimated $250,000, according to the fire department.

The care center was forced to move to another location because of the fire at 7319 North University.

A motive for the fire is not known, but a fire department division chief said at the time that Women's Care Center is often confused with clinics that offer abortion services.

The Crime Stoppers Facebook post did not allude to any possible motive.

FBI and ATF agents were assisting local fire and police officials in the investigation.
