BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) - Tuesday night, the Bloomington Fire department hosted a propane fire drill at Bloomington Station #2.
The training focused primarily on techniques and strategies to use when crew members encounter fires surrounding propane tanks.
Public information officer Eric Davison said these drills are good for the team to practice in the rare case they do encounter propane related emergencies.
"This is one of those high risk, low frequency type of emergencies that we might encounter. So, this isn't something that we end up doing a lot in the field, so it's good for us to be able to practice in this controlled environment, so if that emergency did come up we would be knowledgeable of what to do."-Eric Davison, Bloomington Fire Department
The Illinois Fire Service Institute from the University of Illinois provided free training on Tuesday.
Evergreen FS donated the propane tanks used in the drills.
