BLOOMINGTON (Heart of Illinois ABC) -- A special neighborhood party took place in west Bloomington Saturday to help lower income women achieve their dreams.
An organization known as 'Dreams Are Possible' hosted the the event, welcoming all members of the community to enjoy food, games, and fun.
Heartland Community College and several other organizations were there to provide women with resources and information on degrees, jobs, and more.
Co-Director of Dreams Are Possible Mary Campbell said the goal of the event was to show women life-changing opportunities that they might have not known about before.
"Women tend to work in what we would refer to as 'women oriented fields' and they tend to be the lowest paying," Campbell said. "Our goal is to try them to expose them to things like sheet metal, and laborers, carpentry."
Campbell said Dreams Are Possible offer free job training classes for women and says the program will be recruiting new students in six weeks.
