Respected former Peoria police captain passes away

PEORIA, (WEEK) - Peoria and its police department are grieving the loss of a beloved, former Peoria police captain.

Marshall Dunnigan started working for the department in 1981, and retired 31 years later. During his career, he was promoted to Captain.

According to the department, Dunnigan was assigned to the Walking Beat, Patrol Operations, and the Criminal Investigations Division.

He also earned two distinguished service awards, a lifesaving award, and the distinguished police duty award.

On the Peoria Police Department's Facebook page it read, "Gone but never forgotten. From your brothers and sisters of the Peoria Police Department."
