TAZEWELL COUNTY (WEEK) - A Washington man pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in the death of a Morton man in 2019.
The Tazewell County State's Attorney's office did not enter into a plea deal with Daniel Allbritton, 53, but will recommend up to 38 years in prison.
The victim, John Tyler, was initially reported missing in early December of 2019, but a jogger found his body just before Christmas in a wooded area near Schmidgall Road in rural Tazewell County. Tyler, who was from Morton, died from blunt force trauma, according to the coroner.
A forensic scientist's report indicated blood samples taken from Allbritton's car and garage contained Tyler's DNA.
Allbritton's sentencing is scheduled for September 16.
