PEORIA (WEEK) - Peoria Public Schools will require all students and staff to mask up this school year.
The district will not only be following Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for unvaccinated to wear masks, but it's going above and beyond those guidelines saying everyone, regardless of vaccination status will wear masks.
Board President Gregory Wilson said the decision was made to put safety first.
Also on Monday night, the school board voted to give full-time district employees a one-time payment of $2,000 as COVID-19 relief pay funded by the federal government's American Rescue Plan and Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief program.
“We wanted to make sure we did our job by recognizing what they went through with the school year last year," Wilson said.
The school board also ratified a contract with the union representing transportation workers. They'll receive a 2.5% salary hike in addition to step increases ranging from 3.69% to 4.66% during the three-year life of the contract.
