PEKIN (WEEK) -- Friday evening Heartland Health Services hosted their Dr. Hearty's Back 2 School Bash.
The event offered activities for families, food, and free backpacks filled with school supplies.
Heartland partnered with with Child & Family Connections, Tazewell County Resource Centers and Blue Cross Blue Shield to get all the supplies and set up the event.
Their goal was to help lift the burden that buying school supplies can put on families.
"We were seeing a disparity in income, transportation, hosuing, and even a food insecuity as well." Makinze Roman, Heartland's Community Engagement Coordinator said.
"So when we kind of came back together as a team and we were like lets give back to the community. With back to school right around the corner it just made sense, school supplies with the backpacks," she added.
Heartland Health Services also invites parents to bring their children to their center for their schools phycials.
