PEKIN (WEEK) - The CEO of Reditus Laboratories in Pekin said a surge of Delta variant cases could mean a long and difficult road ahead.
Dr. Aaron Rossi said their lab has detected 64 cases of the Delta variant from across the state since June during their sequencing run July 16. Eighteen of them were from Central Illinois.
He said it's up to individuals to follow safety guidelines, but he said he's concerned that cases are rising, but fewer people are getting tested.
"Last summer, we had a lot of issues with asymptomatic positive people didn't have symptoms and they were frustrated, because they were like 'How am I positive, I feel completely fine,'" Rossi said. "But the fall and winter to come, I thinks it's going to be a tough fall and winter."
Rossi said it's important that the community be aware of this new spike in cases and not fall into a false sense of security.
