PEKIN (WEEK) - More cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant have now been detected in Central Illinois.
According to a press release, Pekin's Reditus Labs is reporting 18 cases of the variant were found in the Peoria and Bloomington-Normal area in three days.
The Delta variant made up 18% of all the cases sampled between July 4 through July 7.
On Wednesday, Reditus CEO Dr. Aaron Rossi called the increase “substantial.”
Nationwide the variant now makes up 83% of all new cases.
Over 400 cases of the variant have been reported across Illinois.
