BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) – The next general manager of Bloomington-Normal’s public transportation system is not a stranger to Central Illinois.
Connect Transit’s Board of Trustees appointed David Braun to the job, replacing Isaac Thorne, who resigned in August of last year to take a similar job in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Former Normal City Manager Mark Peterson has served as interim general manager.
Braun’s first-year salary will be $157,000.
“Worth every penny with all of his years of experience,” said Ryan Whitehouse, the trustees’ chairman.
Braun has worked more than 25 years in the public transit industry, including assistant general manager and general manager of Peoria’s CityLink transit system from 1996 to 2002.
Most recently, Braun has worked as director of transit operations for the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority in Cincinnati.
He received his Master of Business Administration from Bradley University.
In a news release, Connect Transit said Braun will essentially service as the transit system’s CEO, overseeing day-to-day operations, its $15 million operating budget, and 140 employees.
“I look forward to serving the Bloomington and Normal communities and building upon the great work Connect Transit’s staff and Board have done to make public transit safe, reliable, accessible, sustainable and a
great transportation choice for the residents of the area,” Braun said in a statement.
“We feel very fortunate to have been able to attract a candidate as experienced and accomplished as is David Braun,” said Chairman Whitehouse.
“The members of the Board of Trustees are confident that Mr. Braun will find ways to make our already outstanding transit system even better,” Whitehouse also said.
