BLOOMINGTON (WJBC) – Bloomington Police will be carrying new handguns after a seven to two vote at Monday night’s city council meeting.

140 new Sig Sauer P320 PRO handguns, a 9 mm pistol from an Indiana-based company, will be purchased for the department.

Right now the Sig Sauer P229R DAK, is what officers carry if they don’t provide their own handgun for use.

Assistant police chief Chad Wamsley says those weapons are showing signs of wear and tear.

Interim Police Chief Greg Scott said the Indiana-based company offered the best price and could fill the order quickly.

The new weapons should last 10 years before needing to be replaced.

The two no votes came from Ward 6’s Councilwoman Jenn Carrillo and Molly Ward from Ward 7.
